Its main function is to ensure that the entire punch assembly—including the punch, stripper, and die—is correctly assembled, aligned, and measured before being loaded into the machine. This process is critical for maximizing tool life and achieving high-quality punched parts.
The adjustment aid helps address the two most common variables in punching tool setup: tool length and alignment.
1. Punch Length and Grind Life Management
As a punch is reground (sharpened), its overall length decreases. The machine ram needs to be programmed to travel to the correct depth to compensate for this shorter length.
Function: The adjustment aid (often called a QuickSet by Trumpf) provides a digital measurement of the tool's length. It may calculate the necessary ram adjustment value or the amount of remaining grind life.
