The extrusion tool is a type of forming instrument that enables local deformation of the sheet metal material. Its fundamental purpose is to displace the material around a pre-punched hole, drawing it up and out of the sheet plane to create a strong, raised, hollow feature—the extrusion.
This process is a key enabler of chipless thread creation using a subsequent tapping tool (often on the same machine). By forming the extrusion first, the resulting thread has increased material engagement, leading to higher strength compared to a cut thread.
